signs it's getting a bit much, let's talk without the drama

Post by lou_spins »

Want to start a calm thread on this, no lectures, no preaching.

We all play for fun on here but it's worth being honest about the little signs that something's drifting. For me the tell was chasing. Down on the night and thinking one more spin sorts it, when of course it never does.

Other bits I've clocked in myself over the years. Playing later than I meant to. Hiding how much, even just rounding it down in my head. Topping up when the plan was to stop. Feeling a bit ratty when I wasn't on.

None of that is the end of the world on its own, but a few stacking up is the bit worth noticing early.

What are the quiet ones for you lot, the stuff you only spotted looking back? Genuinely curious, and maybe it helps someone reading who hasn't said anything.

the chasing one. that's the big one for me too.

mine was time though more than money. i'd say one more then look up and it's gone midnight on a work night. the hours slipping was the warning sign before the spend ever was. now i set a session reminder, the timer pops up and it breaks the trance a bit.

The honest answer for me was the secrecy. Not lying as such, just not mentioning it. The moment you'd rather not say out loud what you put in, that's the one to sit with.

Good shout doing this without the drama, by the way. People shut down the second it turns into a telling-off, and then they don't reach out when they actually should. Calm threads like this do more good than the scary ones.

for me it was reload bonuses, weirdly. i'd see a deposit offer and that was the nudge to put more in than i'd planned, telling myself it was value. wasn't really.

i turned marketing emails off in the end. boh, sounds small but the prompts were doing half the work of pulling me back in. quieter inbox, quieter habit.

The one nobody mentions, relief. Not enjoying a win, just feeling relieved you clawed something back. When it stops being fun and starts being relief, the wheels are already turning. That's the quiet one I'd flag.

Fair play for the thread.
